The Experience Japan Festival includes a wider range of events and activities which will take place between 3rd April and 3oth April.  As well as the main Festival in Farmleigh on Sunday 13th April, there will be many other opportunities to celebrate Japan and Japanese culture.  Events will take place at a variety of locations around the city including Chester Beatty Library, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and others.

2014 Events

Japanese & Irish High School Life
Friday 25th April 2014, 2 to 4.40pm
Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle (Free admission)

This event will focus on Japanese pop and traditional culture from a teenager’s perspective. The event will include presentations and talks by Japanese students who will share their experiences of high school life in Japan. The day will include an anime screening and a cosplay fashion demonstration portraying the development of Japanese fashion and costuming from traditional to modern.

Experience Japan Seminar Day
Saturday 26th April, 11.15am to 4.15pm
Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle (Free admission)

During the day there will be seminar talks covering gender representation in Japanese Art and Theatre with a review of policy changes supporting ‘Science Women’ in Japan.  Professor Andrew Gerstle (SOAS) will speak on ‘Gender representation in Kabuki’.

Experience Japan Hanami Festival Day
Sunday 13 April, 12 to 4pm
Farmleigh House & Estate
Phoenix Park (Free admission)

The main Experience Japanese festival day will be on Sunday 13th April 2014 in the love surroundings of Farmleigh House & Estate in the Phoenix Park. This event brings together groups interested in Japan and Japanese culture in a Hanami (Cherry Blossom) Festival. Traditionally at this time of year across Japan groups come together for a community celebration marking the appearance of the Cherry Blossom very often accompanied with the sound of the traditional Taiko drums. All activities are free with stage performances as well as demonstrations and workshops. Activities start at 12noon and run until 4pm.

Japanese Business Seminar – Doing Business in Japan
